Jailbird was inspired by the bars of a jail cell. The design originally used double vertical and horizontal strokes, but was simplified for a cleaner look. The typeface is meant to be used as a display face.
The sample creative was inspired by a deck of cards and scrabble mash up, allowing players to play anywhere they want with fewer game pieces.
The following typefaces were used for reference during the creation of Jailbird:
- Gotham
- Gill Sans
- Myriad Sketch
- Semplicita
I transformed my initial font sketches into a usable, digital typeface, complete with kerning, vectorized glyphs, and consistent character design.
This project was completed during my time as a student at Humber College.
